Climbers can experience both adventure and serenity, as each trek passes through pristine forests, traditional villages, and ancient monasteries perched on cliff sides. Popular climbs, such as the peaks surrounding Thimphu, Paro, and Bumthang, provide stunning panoramic views and unique opportunities to immerse oneself in Bhutanese culture. Bhutanese culture views high mountains as sacred. To preserve this sanctity and the environment, the government bans climbing major peaks, including the world’s highest unclimbed mountain, Gangkhar Puensum (7,570 m).
