FAQ - General Visa Information:

Yes, visitors from all countries need a visa except citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives.

You cannot apply directly for a Bhutan visa yourself. All visa applications must be processed through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or one of their international travel partners. The operator will handle: Submitting your visa application, Paying the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) and visa fee, Getting approval from Bhutan’s Department of Immigration.

You’ll receive an e-Visa Clearance Letter by email once it’s approved. The actual visa stamp is placed in your passport when you arrive in Bhutan — for example, at Paro International Airport or land entry points like Phuentsholing.

Only citizens of Bangladesh and the Maldives can get a visa on arrival. Indian citizens do not need a visa but must obtain an entry permit at the border or airport. All other nationalities must obtain visa clearance before travel.

It’s best not to book flights until you’ve received your Visa Clearance Letter, as airlines may refuse boarding without it.
